DC In Struggle: Forever With The Rebels, Always Against the Pig

Rebellion in 1968 after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The conditions are still there, and will remain until the victory of socialism.

This statement was drafted by a Liberation candidate from the Metro DC branch of DSA.

Comrades! As we write this, Homeland Security, the FBI, DC National Guard, ICE, and the Capitol Police are occupying our city. Black and Brown workers are being kidnapped off the streets and arbitrarily detained. This heralds crackdowns around the nation, in cities targeted by the Trump administration (LA, Chicago, NYC, Seattle, Portland, STL, Baltimore). As the heart of this rotten prisonhouse of nations, the city exemplifies the sharp and antagonistic contradictions inherent with living in the heart of an empire. DC has long been the most surveilled city in the world. Every corner has a camera and every corner has a federal pig. Slickly dressed government workers and lobbyists walk past homeless people on the streets as they make their way to parasitic “jobs”, preying on workers at home and abroad and plotting new evil.

Our city is disenfranchised and has no voting representation in Congress. We are, fundamentally, a heavily Black and Brown colony. DC is not a state because this country does not want Black and Brown people to be in a position where they can determine our own destiny.

This occupation also serves to extend the tentacles of organizations such as ICE, who will seek to ramp up their attacks on migrant neighborhoods in the city, which began in February. The chickens have come home to roost in the imperial core. The sheen of a rules-based order has been completely scrubbed away. DC will fight. We will not sit and watch as our people are taken. All sightings and incidents should be reported to trusted local organizing channels, as confusion is what the occupiers want. To those outside of the DMV, keep your eyes on us and be prepared to assist us. Spread the word and don't give the occupiers impunity of action simply because it's out of sight and mind to you. DSA has come out of convention committed to deeper solidarity with migrants and all colonized people. Many comrades and chapters have already long been in the forefront of the struggle. We must learn from these comrades, and others, and commit ourselves to all coalitions against Yankee imperialism and repression at home and abroad. This work must be expanded, and everywhere the pig raises their heads, they must be met by a fighting coalition, of which DSA must stand firmly in the vanguard. DC today. The rest of us tomorrow. Solidarity Forever.
